A Drop

Asthma Inhalers For Free

The largest tobacco corporation bought out an inhaler company recently. A 1.1 billion-pound takeover of asthma inhaler maker Vectura took place on September 16th. Now Phillip Morris will be responsible not only for lung diseases but also for their treatment.

While the company's management celebrates the deal, doctors and different charity organizations around the world are outraged by the situation and demand the intervention of the WHO.

This situation reminds me of the famous saying about capital by Thomas Joseph Dunning (not Karl Marx). Remember it?

With adequate profit, capital is very bold. A certain 10 percent will ensure its employment anywhere; 20 percent certain will produce eagerness; 50 percent, positive audacity; 100 percent will make it ready to trample on all human laws; 300 percent of profit, and there is no crime at which capital will scruple, nor a risk it will not run, even to the chance of its owner being hanged. If turbulence and strife bring a profit, it will freely encourage both. Smuggling and the slave trade have amply proved all that is here stated…
Thomas Joseph Dunning
English Bookbinder and Trade Unionist

At the time this thing was said, nobody heard about the tobacco lobby and all good things related to it. The news is so twisted that it sounds like a joke!

Oh, these fellas from tobacco companies. Will they ever stop? What do you think? Everything I was able to come up with is this: Buy two packs of cigarettes and get an asthma inhaler for free!.. Excellent motto, don't you agree?
